My 19 year old son has hooked up with some girl through a website. You must be 18 years old to use this site and the girl in question used some fake name and name turns out to be only 15 . The police were called to where my son and this girl were having sex and basically caught in the act. There have been no charges yet while the girl’s family decides if they will press charges or not. What can I do?
Not really much to do until the police decide whether to charge or not. At that point you can get a lawyer and start putting together a defense. There is just no way in my experience to get a lawyer now, at this early pre-charge stage, and sort of “head it off at the pass”. That stuff may happen on TV but not in real life. The best advice that I can give right now is to NOT talk about the case with anyone. Not friends, not neighbors and certainly not the cops. Lots of folks think they can talk their way out of a situation, and the cops may even suggest that it’s possible to do so, but the best rule is to say nothing to no one. If there’s enough evidence to charge your son, well, that’s just the way it is. If there’s NOT enough evidence, then it would be tragic to go and talk to the cops and give them that last piece they need to charge him, if you follow me.
