Hi, I recently received a speeding ticket in Brunswick NC. It was a 70mph in a 55mph. I have seen some people online talking about reducing the ticket to a 9mph ticket. I was just wondering how this was possible? Would it require me to go into court or could it be done some other way.
Yes 9 over will help you (it will avoid insurance increase), but only if your record is clean for the past 3 years. You can do that ONCE every three years on a 3-year clean record. The better move is to try and have the DA reduce the charge to “IE” (improper equipment) which is not considered a moving violation at all and would avoid driver’s license points as well as insurance points. As a fall-back, if you have not used a “PJC” (prayer for judgment continued” in the past 3 years, you can do that and avoid insurance and driver’s license points as well, but then, having used it, you cannot use another for 3 years (which is not so good if you have another ticket in that time frame). To sum it up: Clean record past three years and 9 over is all you need but better to use the IE if the DA will give it to you. PJC is allowed only once every three years PER HOUSEHOLD so keep that in the bank until you need it.
