Hello,
I received a ticket in David City for going 20 over on a 60MPH highway. I am a Michigan licensed driver and here in Nebraska for work. The officer said to just pay the fine, but I was wondering if I am going to get points on my Michigan license. Michigan is not a compact state. Does Nebraska send this information over? I do not want my insurance to go up as well. What is the best way to resolve this?
If you respond to the court and admit responsibility the conviction and points will eventually abstract to Michigan. However, if you default on the ticket, meaning not respond within the allotted amount of time to answer, the court will default you and enter a conviction but the corresponding points will not abstract.
Obviously another option would be to hire an attorney to fight the ticket there with the hopes of winning or reducing the charge. Any moving violation however would result in conviction and points because you could not default.
