Today I went to get my Drivers Licenses in Florida and they said I have a hold from Massachusetts and to call a number. She said its probably some type of fees I owe… I haven’t lived in MA in 7 years – I think I must have missed a court date that I was unaware of since I moved to Florida.. This is got to be over 7 years old!! What do I with a warrant from 7 years ago for a misdemeanor that I failed to appear in court for????
Good afternoon. Here are some steps to follow:
- Enter the phone number given into google and do a search. This will help tell you if the number is for the MA DMV or the actual court itself. If the FL DMV gave it to you, it is probably the number to the MA DMV.
- If it is do the MA DMV and you do not recall the specific court you received a ticket, then you may need to contact the MA DMV to find out where your outstanding ticket is from. Once you find this out, you need to contact the court to find out what is wrong, and what your options are for fixing it.
- Once you fix the issues with the court, you should get a clearance letter. Then you need to contact back the MA DMV to see if you need to provide them the clearance letter and any reinstatement fee to clear your suspension in MA and to take it off of the National Driver’s Registry.
- Once they clear that, you need to take your clearance letter to the FL DMV, and they should clear you at that time.
As you go through, you may find it to be more complicated. If so, please feel free to contact me. I help people clear issues like this all of the time. Thank you.
