Got Speeding ticket – 65MPH on 50MPH on Route 55, Wake County, North Carolina. I was asked to appear in the court. Please advise what can be done. FYI., I have another speeding ticket in Oct 2016, from Virginia state, ended up paying fine. No Points given.
Venkat: Best thing is to try and have the DA change the charge to IE (Improper Equipment). That’s not even a moving violation and carries no insurance or license points. Next best thing is to get the speed reduced to 9 over (so 59/50). If your record is clean for the past 3 years, one single ticket for 59/50 will not cause your insurance to escalate (though you will see a couple of drivers license points). Not sure if your record is considered “clean” though since you have that VA ticket. Last possibility is to ask the judge for a “PJC” (prayer for judgment continued). That is sort of like a pardon from the judge that will wipe out all points (insurance and license points) for this offense. Can only use one of those per household per three year period though, so bear that in mind. Best to keep that PJC for a rainy day and try for the IE!
