I was trying to get a friend back home on Fort Bragg, NC and make it home on time after celebrating my birthday a day late due to weather April 3rd. While approaching the Sante Fe exit I passed a truck that wasn\’t on, no lights were on or anything and the police lights flashed as well as the car being turned on. I was then pulled over, he took my license, said it was 69 in a 55 then he did not come and ask anything he only came back with the citation and license.
Dear Anon: Best advice I can give you is to try for an IE (improper equipment) from the DA when you go to court. It’s not even a moving violation and carries no points at all. Next best thing is to have the DA reduce the speed to 9 over (so 64/55). If your driving record is clean for the past three years, that won’t cause your insurance to go up (though it will give you a couple drivers license points). Lastly, if no one in your household (including you) has used a PJC (prayer for judgment continued) in the past three years you can ask the judge for that when you go to court. I advise against it however, since you may need to use it in the future and either one of the other solutions will avoid insurance consequences just as easily if you can use them instead. If you want to get a lawyer to handle this, I’m sure you got about a million letters from lawyers just dying to help you.
