I live in California but was travelling in Arizona to visit a friend. I got a speeding ticket, and it was my first one. I want to take a driving course to avoid getting points on my record. Can I take a class back in California, or would I have to come back to Arizona to take it?
Consistent with the other posts; Az. will dictate the approved classes for an Az. citation. Most likely, with the vast number of online schools you should find one without a problem. Check out the link in a previous answer to find the school that best suits your needs.

If you have no prior citations, you will probably be eligible for traffic school. Assuming you were not going more than 20 miles over the posted speed limit. Most states, including Arizona, allow you to do a traffic school course online. Contact the Superior Court in the county for which you received the citation. The telephone number should be on the citation. Just inform them that you wish to do traffic school. Also, the court probably has a website in which you can set up a traffic school disposition.
As the prior comment mentioned, your best bet is to take a driving class online. The school we recommend is the the Improv Comedy School. A full list of schools is here: http://www.azcourts.gov/drive/List-of-Certified-Schools/ccname/Maricopa
You cannot automatically take the online class for criminal violations, but if it is just a simple civil traffic ticket, you should be good to go. Taking the class online will dismiss the ticket and not assess any points on your license. You are allowed to take driving school once per year in Arizona.
